Daniel Wallace – Big Fish. A gift book in a leather binding.

“Big Fish” is a very touching story about the complex relationship between a son and his dying father. The father, Edward Bloom, was an incorrigible dreamer and storyteller all his life. He turned his biography into a collection of incredible legends about giants, witches, and talking animals. Because of these endless fabrications, his grown son, William, feels like an outsider and feels deceived. William is angry and desperately tries to find out what his father was really like. He wants to hear the truth from his dying parent, not another tall tale. However, over time, the son realizes an important thing: those stories were the true essence of his father. Edward simply didn’t know how to live a mundane life, for he was a “big fish” who felt cramped in a small pond. In the finale, William himself composes one last beautiful legend for his father and lets him go in peace. The book teaches us to accept our loved ones as they are and to appreciate the power of imagination.
