Livy is one of the most important names in the literature of the so-called Golden age of Ancient Rome. Above all, however, the name of the author related to his giant, epoch-making scientific work "History of Rome from the Foundation of the City" is a work comparable in historical and historiographical value only with the "History" of Herodotus and "the twelve Caesars" Suetonius.
At the disposal of Libya was a wealth of material of varying degrees of accuracy and artistry. Basic information about the official life of the city he took from the Chronicles of priests-pontiffs, and willingly used a variety of "annals" and historical writings by Greek and Roman authors, extant mostly in fragments. The result of his many years of work was the book, which still remains a brilliant monument to the era and reads with unceasing interest.
