Renaissance folklore plots that inspired two tales by Pushkin
Giovanni Francesco Straparola is an Italian writer.
The fairy tales of the outstanding Italian writer of the Renaissance, Giovanfrancesco Straparola da Caravaggio, included in this book, are taken from his famous short story collection "Pleasant Nights". Straparola's appeal to folklore plots, their entertainment and constant joking made his book extremely popular for many centuries and not only in Italy. In particular, A.S.Pushkin "borrowed" some storylines from Straparola's fairy tales for "The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish" and "The Tale of Tsar Saltan".
