The brothers Grimm (Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm) — the famous researchers of German folk culture and German linguists. Jacob and Wilhelm were born in Hanau, where their childhood. Then lived for a time in Kassel, Germany. The brothers Grimm a long time collecting German folklore. The result of their works have become collections of all the famous tales "the Tales of the brothers Grimm." They quickly gained popularity. Together with Georg Friedrich Benecke and Karl Lahmanna of the brothers Grimm is credited to the founders of German studies and German Philology.

In the present two volumes included the legendary "Children and family tales" by the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, published during the life of the authors. The publication is richly illustrated with drawings by German artists F. Grot Johann and R. Leinweber, as well as works by English artist A. Rachama. The texts of the fairy tales presented in the translations of V. A. Hatsuka, P. N. Field and B. D. Porozovskoe (from the Illustrated fairy library F. pavlenkova).
