Claudius Ptolemy — postpollination astronomer, astrologer, mathematician, engineer, optician, music theorist and geographer. Lived and worked in Alexandria, Egypt, where he conducted astronomical observations.

The astrological work of Ptolemy, commonly called Tetrabiblos, or Chetvertnia has some manuscripts have the title, which, apparently, enjoyed himself and Ptolemy - "Mathematical treatise in four books". This work is a systematic treatise on astrology, however, it should be remembered that in the time of Ptolemy the two words "astrology" and "astronomy" meant almost the same thing, namely "astronomy" in the modern sense, and what we now call "astrology", Ptolemy called the "prediction through astronomy."
In the first book describes General concepts of astrology, in the second — the influence of celestial phenomena on the weather, in the third and fourth person. Ptolemy does not consider the treatise questions katrichenko astrology that attempts to identify the favorable time for performing any action. In addition to astrological material, Ptolemy in "Tetrabiblos" for the first time expressed a profound philosophical idea of the incommensurability of the heavenly motions and thus the impossibility of a complete repetition of the events (as did the Pythagoreans).
