Daniel Defoe-The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe. Gift book bound in genuine leather.

Enlarged format!

The book about Robinson Crusoe is not travel notes and not memories, but literary fiction. It is believed that it is based on the story of a sailor named Alexander Selkirk, who, after a quarrel with his captain, was landed on the uninhabited island of Mas-a-Tierra off the coast of Chile, where he spent more than four years. Over the years, Selkirk has forgotten his native language and turned into a real savage.

And this, perhaps, is the main difference between the sailor and the hero of Defoe. For twenty-eight years of a lonely life among the virgin nature, Robinson Crusoe not only preserved all the qualities of a civilized person, but also arranged the island and found a faithful friend Friday.

As soon as the first edition of The Adventures of Robinson was published, a second one appeared two weeks later, and more and more followed, despite the fact that the book cost five shillings – you could buy a good horse with that money at that time. And that was just the beginning. Since then, hundreds of publications have been published in almost all languages of the world, millions of people have read the story invented by the writer, and the name Robinson has become a household name.

Daniel Defoe raised the question: how will a person behave, cut off from society, from friends and relatives, when he has no one to count on but himself? And the answer was the immortal image created by him, which combined the best human qualities – courage, perseverance, ingenuity and the ability not to lose hope under any circumstances.

And today, four centuries later, every reader involuntarily puts himself in the place of Robinson Crusoe.
