"Moby Dick, or the White Whale" tells the story of a whaling ship captain named Ahab. He is obsessed with the idea of revenge on a giant whale named Moby Dick, who kills many whalers.

From the age of eighteen, he sailed as a cabin boy on a packet boat, later went on a whaling ship to the South Seas, was captured by the natives, was released by the crew of an American warship. After long wanderings, in 1844 he returned to his homeland and engaged in literary activity.

Moby Dick, or the White Whale (1851) is Melville's most famous work. The plot of the novel is largely based on a real case that happened to the American whaling ship Essex, which was rammed three times by a giant whale and sank in the South Pacific Ocean.

The captain of the whaling ship "Pequod", obsessed with the idea of revenge on the white whale Moby Dick, the killer of whalers, promises a reward to the one who first notices Moby Dick. The ship catches up with the whale, but it is not possible to harpoon it. From the impact of Moby Dick, the ship goes to the bottom, only the sailor Ishmael is saved, on whose behalf the narrative is being conducted…
