Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov is a Russian writer of the Soviet period, playwright, theater director and actor. Author of novels, novellas and short stories, plays, screenplays, many feuilletons in the 1920s.

This set contains the entire set of drafts of the "Master and Margarita", stored in the research department of the manuscripts of the Russian State Library. In addition, the publication contains the final text of the work, reflecting the author's will as much as possible, established with the help of textual and historical-biographical research. The drafts were transmitted in two volumes by dynamic transcription, accompanied by a detailed textual commentary. The first volume contains handwritten editions of the novel (1928-1938), the second — the sixth edition (1938-1940) and the main text. Autographs of the writer were used for the design of the book.
