A decade-long Van Gogh study drawing on rare family archive documents
Having chosen the famous Dutch artist as their new hero, Pulitzer Prize winners Stephen Knifey and Gregory White-Smith, by their own admission, did not suspect how difficult the tasks that the biographers of Vincent Van Gogh would have to solve in the XXI century. For more than a hundred years, an incredible number of works were written about the life and work of the artist, the conclusions of which the authors of the new biography had to take into account or refute. Through close collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Knifey and White-Smith gained free access to rare documents from the family archives, many of which have remained in the shadow of the famous letters of Vincent Van Gogh himself to this day.
Published in 2011, the new fundamental biography "Van Gogh. Life", the work on which lasted for 10 years, earned flattering reviews from critics. Addictive as the nineteenth-century novel, this well-documented story of ambition and hard work achieved fleeting success now and in the Russian language.
