The material is presented in vivid and accessible language with lots of illustrations and therefore easy to read. The book is dated 1948-1955 gg and it invariably leaves its mark time. Although quotations from the classics of Marxism-Leninism eyes not easily cut and sifted. The book covers the time interval starting from the cave paintings of the Paleolithic and ending with the expressionists i.e., only the good old docudrama art. The author focuses mainly on three kinds of art: painting, architecture and sculpture although not to neglect literature and music especially if they additionally emphasize a specific historical stage in the development of art in General. Of course painting is the most interesting part.
