Three Gromov generations amid Siberian gold mines and the harsh taiga
Vyacheslav Shishkov - Ugryum-reka (in 2 volumes). Gift books bound in leather
Vyacheslav Yakovlevich Shishkov — Russian and Soviet writer, engineer.
"Ugryum-reka" is a Saga about three generations of the Gromov merchant family, as well as the first large-scale painting about the life of gold miners in Siberia at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries.
The novel is based on real evidence and personal experience of the author, who worked for twenty years in Siberia as a research engineer. This work reliably shows the life and mood of the time, lovingly conveyed the harsh beauty and violent temper of the Siberian taiga. The main character Prokhor Gromov faces the problem of moral choice: he makes a decision and enters into a struggle with fate.
This exciting, adventurous and at the same time full of drama narrative did not leave indifferent any generation of readers.
In 1968, the novel was successfully adapted into a film.
