Brave Pechorin performs no feats and brings suffering to himself and others
The novel "The Hero of Our Time" by the great Russian writer Mikhail Lermontov became an event in Russian literature. Its main character-a twenty-three-year-old ensign Grigory Pechorin-is far from romantic characters. He is brave, but does not perform military feats. He often becomes the cause of the death of innocent people, he is not attracted by love experiences. He suffers from life and seems to make others suffer...
Pechorin is often compared to Alexander Pushkin's Yevgeny Onegin — another bright representative of the youth of Russia, who experienced disappointment due to the failed coup of the Decembrists. "Their dissimilarity with each other is much less than the distance between Onego and Pechora," wrote the domestic critic Vissarion Belinsky.
"The Hero of Our Time" has repeatedly become the basis for films, theater and even ballet productions. The most famous film adaptation is considered to be the TV play "Pages of Pechorin's Magazine" in 1975, where Andrey Mironov, Oleg Dal and Leonid Bronevoy played.
