A secret expedition to England during the American War of Independence
James Fenimore Cooper is an American novelist and satirist. Classic of adventure literature. Member of the American Philosophical Society.
The end of the XVIII century. In the midst of the war for the independence of the colonies of North America from English domination, two suspicious vessels approach the shores of England: a frigate and a schooner. The schooner is waiting for a Pilot, whom only the captain knows by sight. The team meets the new crew member with disbelief. But the captain of the schooner, whose crew was on the side of the warring colonies, decides to send an expeditionary force ashore to capture several important military or political figures of England for the subsequent exchange of prisoners, and entrusts the mysterious pilot with the command of this expedition…
The Pilot is Fenimore Cooper's first naval novel. Contemporaries recognized in the mysterious pilot the legendary captain John Paul Jones, famous for his victories on both sides of the Atlantic.
