Ostap Bender's adventures from hidden treasure to his dream of Rio
Ilf and Petrov are Soviet co-authors Ilya Ilf and Evgeny Petrov. Natives of the city of Odessa. Together they wrote the famous novels "The Twelve Chairs" and "The Golden Calf".
"Twelve chairs"
The cult humorous novel "12 Chairs" by Ilya Ilf and Evgeny Petrov was first published in 1928. Since then, the book has become an inexhaustible source of aphorisms. "The ice has broken", "how much opium for the people?", "statistics knows everything", "the rescue of drowning people is the work of drowning people themselves" and many other phrases have firmly entered everyday use.
"12 chairs" is very close to the genre of the picaresque novel. No wonder their main character is a talented crook Ostap Bender. In pursuit of the treasures sewn into the seat of the chair, he manages not only to visit the images of an artist, a fire inspector, a chess grandmaster, but even to get married!
However, Bender and his hapless partner Kisa Vorobyaninov are far from the only bright characters in the novel. It ironically depicts many expressive types. Fashion-chasing Ellochka is a cannibal, a shy robber of state property Alchen, a writer of identical poems on any topical topic Nikifor Lapis-Trubetskoy…
"Golden Calf"
"I will command the parade!", "Don't make a cult out of food", "As a child, I killed people like you with a slingshot" and many other quotes from the imperishable work of Ilf and Petrov have long been considered folk, and Ostap Bender is a favorite hero of many generations.
In the Golden Calf, new adventures of an adventurer, a "great combinator", a cheerful "son of Lieutenant Schmitt" are waiting for you on the way to fabulous money and his "crystal dream" — Rio de Janeiro.
