The fate of the literary Commonwealth of Ilf and Petrov unusual. It is touch and concern. They worked together long, only ten years, but in the history of Soviet literature left a deep, indelible mark. Their memory does not fade, and the love of readers for their books is not weakened. Widely known are the novels "the Twelve chairs" and "Golden calf". In the new historical conditions, the material of our time, Ilf and Petrov not only revived the old, classic genre of the satirical novel, but also gave it a radically new character.
We call first of all these two of the novel, because "the Twelve chairs" and "Golden calf" is really the top of creativity of Ilfa and Petrov. But these novels rise above the whole literary range, which consists of works in various genres. Reviewing the literary legacy of Ilf and Petrov, not only works written by them together, but each separately, it is impossible not to marvel at the breadth of creative opportunities for writers, literary brilliance of satires, essays, comedies. The talent of the satirist has hit the key. Ahead of the authors were open wide road. They hatched a lot of ideas, plans, topics. Satire in the works of writers became deeper. Unfortunately, the end of their Commonwealth was tragic. Ilf life ended too early. A few years later, also at the height of his talent, was killed Petrov.

Volume 1:
The novel "the Twelve chairs", novel "Bright person" and a collection of stories, "1001 days, or Scheherazade," and the story "Past Registrar of the registry office", which was considered an unpublished Chapter of the first novel of Ilf and Petrov. As a Preface this this is the essay of K. G. Paustovsky, "the Fourth band".
Volume 2:
The novel "the Golden calf", as well as essays, satires and short stories, written in 1929-1931. As a Preface is the article by A. V. Lunacharsky, written specifically for the first American edition.
Volume 3:
Stories, satires, articles and speeches, written in the years 1932-1937, as well as vaudeville and kinoscenarii the famous Duo. Instead of the Preface contains a sketch of the actor and Director I. V. Ilyinsky.
Volume 4:
A collection of travel writing "one-Storey America", stories "Tonya", essays on "Start campaign" and "Day in Athens". Also in this volume Vosloo letters, written during travels in the US, and instead of a Preface is an essay of Yuri Olesha "the Ilf".
Volume 5:
Divided into two parts: the first includes the last works of I. Ilf, including his notebooks; the second part consists of works of Petrov, the earliest of them dates from 1924.
The book also includes memories about Petrov I. Ilf and E. Simonov about Petrov.
