Chapter publication, eager readers, and raging criticism in Pushkin's time
"Eugene Onegin" became a central event in the literary and social life of Pushkin's time.
A.S. Pushkin printed "Eugene Onegin" in chapters. Readers, empathizing with the heroes, were looking forward to the appearance of the next chapter. Criticism raged.
"Onegin is Pushkin's most intimate work, the most beloved child of his imagination, and one can point to too few creations in which the poet's personality would be reflected with such fullness, light and clear, as Pushkin's personality was reflected in Onegin," V.G. Belinsky wrote about the novel.
A.S. Pushkin himself called the work on the novel a feat.
