The book examines the history and traditional culture of the Kalmyks. This is the first attempt at an academic description of the Kalmyk people as an ethnic community. From the standpoint of modern science, the problem of the Kalmyks' origin, their ethnic history, anthropological appearance, the formation of the Kalmyk language, and the development of material and spiritual culture are studied. Kalmyks, being natives of Central Asia, have been living for four centuries surrounded and bordered by the peoples of southern Russia and the North Caucasus and have been influenced by them. The monograph highlights the issues of the Kalmyks' settlement, the peculiarities of their traditional economic activities, crafts and crafts. The chronological framework of the work covers mainly the XIX-XX centuries. This work presents the most up-to-date scientific data on the history and culture of the Kalmyks.
