Nomadic cattle breeding and the road to independent Kazakhstan in 1991
"Kazakhs"
This book in the Peoples and Cultures series is dedicated to the Kazakhs, one of the largest peoples of Eurasia, the main population of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Having preserved the characteristic features and achievements of the nomadic steppe peoples of Antiquity and the Middle Ages, Kazakh culture has formed its own distinctive look. The monograph shows the decisive impact of nomadic cattle breeding as the main mode of production on the traditions of life support, socionormative and humanitarian culture of the Kazakhs. A special place is given to the political genesis and history of statehood, which includes such important stages as the formation of the Kazakh Khanate, Kazakhstan's stay in the Russian Empire, the creation of the Kazakh SSR as part of the Soviet Union and the proclamation of the independent Republic of Kazakhstan in 1991. Numerous Kazakh communities live today in Russia, China, Mongolia, Uzbekistan and other countries. The book describes the Kazakh diaspora in its interaction with the main ethnic group. The ethnodemographic, social, linguistic, and religious processes of recent decades, as well as the interaction of ethnocultural communities in modern Kazakhstan, are reflected in the collective monograph. The publication is interdisciplinary in nature. It was the result of cooperation between scientists from Russia and Kazakhstan. The Kazakhs volume introduces unique expedition, archival and museum materials into scientific circulation.
