The novel "The Three Kingdoms", written in the XIV century, was created on the basis of chronicles and folk tales telling about the events of the III century, when China broke up into three kingdoms that waged continuous wars among themselves. The main characters of the novel - heroes, fighters for justice - are still popular and loved not only in China, but also in other countries of the Far East.

The author of the novel is Luo Guanzhong, who created a work based on the chronicles of the court historian Chen Shou. The historical outline in it is combined with a fair share of artistic fiction. The images of the characters do not correspond to their prototypes in everything, however, the popularity of the novel led to the fact that they were fixed in people's memory as clear stereotypes. This was due to the active use of the scenes of the "Three Kingdoms" in the Chinese traditional theater.
