German fairy tales. Gift book bound in leather.

The collection includes twenty-six German fairy tales narrated by various authors: the brothers Grimm, Ludwig Bechstein, Johann Peter Goebel, Clemens Brentano, Richard von Folkman-Leander, Wilhelm Gauf and Giambattista Basile. The plots of many of them are familiar to Russian readers, other fairy tales are less well known. All the fairy tales of the collection are illustrated with magnificent color drawings by the recognized master of book illustration — the German artist Alexander Zika.

German folk tales are an integral part of European culture. The brave little tailor, Hansel and Gretel, Bremen Town musicians, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella — the characters of these fairy tales are known and loved by children and adults in many countries of the world. Other heroes and fairy tales of this collection are less well-known, but that's why they are interesting. Pearls of folk art were painstakingly collected and recorded by people of different views, beliefs and professions. These are the German linguists brothers Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm, the German writer Ludwig Bechstein, writers and educators Johann Peter Goebel and Clemens Brentano, military doctor and writer Richard von Volkmann-Leander, the famous German storyteller Wilhelm Gauf, the Neapolitan poet and writer Giambattista Basile — the first in the history of European literature compiler of the two-volume folklore collection "The Tale of Fairy Tales" (1634, 1636).
