Morgan L. G.-Ancient Society or the study of the lines of human progress from savagery through barbarism to civilization. Gift book bound in leather

"Ancient Society" is a book by the outstanding American ethnographer, sociologist and historian Lewis Henry Morgan, in which the process of development of human society is considered through the prism of an evolutionist approach. The author traces the history of the development of intelligence as a result of inventions and discoveries, and also examines the organization of life of ancient societies as a reflection of the development of ideas of management, family and property. At the beginning of the book is an article by F.Engels '" On the Prehistory of the Family (Bachofen, McLennan, Morgan)", which is the preface to his book "The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State"; the appendix contains a preface by L. Morgan to the work of L. Fison and A. Howitt, devoted to the study of Australian ethnic communities.

The book consists of four parts, which are considered: 1) the development of intelligence due to inventions and discoveries, 2) the development of the idea of management, 3) the development of the idea of family and 4) the development of the idea of property. History has shown that all the questions of primitive history brilliantly covered by Morgan in this work have become questions of great political relevance.
