Eugene Rogan - The Arabs. History. XVI-XXI centuries. Gift book bound in leather.

Eugene Rogan is a British Arab historian and author, professor.

The book traces five centuries of Arab history and describes the history of all the Arab States of North Africa, the Fertile Crescent and the Arabian Peninsula. The narrative begins with the battle of Marj Dabiq, which took place in 1516, when the Mamluk Sultanate was defeated by the Ottomans and the Arabs fell under foreign rule, and ends with the events of the 2010s. At the same time, the author seeks to show the interconnectedness of the history of all states in the region. Of particular interest is a detailed account of the dramatic events of the twentieth century — the partition of the Ottoman Empire after World War I, the struggle of Arab peoples against colonialism, the Palestinian catastrophe and the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Arab Spring and its consequences. The fate of the Arab peoples cannot be called simple. For centuries, their history has been determined by two vectors: resistance to foreign domination and the desire to reform their own states. The revolutionary events of the Arab Spring have become just another chapter in the history of a centuries—old struggle, and this is what Eugene Rogan's large-scale work is about.
