Dmitry Bantysh‑Kamensky – Russian Generalissimos and Field Marshals. A gift book in a leather binding.
“Russian Generalissimos and Field Marshals” is the first comprehensive biographical study in Russian historiography devoted to the highest military ranks of the Russian Empire. The book contains detailed biographies and a thorough analysis of the state and military activities of key figures in Russian history. The author, relying on a wealth of archival materials, painstakingly recreates the portraits of outstanding military leaders, including Alexander Menshikov, Boris Sheremetev, and Alexander Suvorov. In his essays, Bantysh‑Kamensky does not merely list dates and battles but also provides a profound analysis of each hero’s personal qualities, tactical genius, and political influence.
This monumental work allows the reader to clearly trace the evolution of the Russian army and the development of the state’s military power throughout the 18th century. Written in a lively and vivid style, the study is a crucial historical source that laid the foundations of the Russian biographical tradition.
The book is an invaluable resource for anyone studying the art of war, diplomacy, and court life in Imperial Russia.
