Artificial values challenged through absurdity and black humor
"The American Dream"
This play is an examination of the American Stage, an attack on the substitution of artificial values for real ones in our society, an accusation of complacency, cruelty, impotence and emptiness; it opposes the delusion that everything in this crazy country of ours is wonderful.
The premiere of the play "The American Dream" took place in 1961. After 60 years, it turns out that the problems of the play are not outdated at all and allows us to recall the most acute topics of our time. The play turned out to be consonant with both the search for dreams and the general state of modern society in the conditions of covid, when absurdity and black humor literally permeated our lives.
