The American South through a girl's eyes amid racism and courtroom struggle
Nell Harper Lee is an American writer, author of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird.
The main character of the novel is a ten–year-old girl Jean Finch, who lives with her family in a small town in the American south. The events of the book are told on her behalf. Each chapter is imbued with warmth, love and humor – and at the same time Harper Lee speaks to readers on very serious topics such as xenophobia, racism, intolerance and bigotry. Jill's father, Atticus, who defended a black guy in court at a time when it was simply unthinkable, became a real symbol, a great example of an honest and principled lawyer who puts justice above all.
