A diagnosis of Western civilization and humanity's return to Tradition
"The Crisis of the Modern World" is a unique work that provides an analysis of the modern world and its prospects.
The author of the book, Rene Guenon, was an unusual figure in the history of philosophy of the 20th century. He was a member of the Shadiriyya Sufi order under the name Abd al-Wahid Yahya and was married to the daughter of an Egyptian sheikh descendant of Muhammad. Guenon did not consider himself the discoverer or creator of his own teachings, believing that he was simply conveying truths to Europeans that any Easterner could understand.
In his book, Guenon makes a disappointing diagnosis of Western civilization, which turned out to be truly prescient. He offers his understanding of the possibilities of further development of human civilization, based on the return of humanity to Tradition - a set of "non-human" knowledge passed down from generation to generation by the caste of initiates.
